Our platform already works well; your mission will be to make it exceptional through strong ownership, reliable engineering, clear governance, and scalable standards.<br>This is a rare opportunity to shape how data engineering is done across the company. You won’t simply maintain pipelines—you’ll define the platform, standards, tools, and ways of working that enable teams to build trusted data products across Marketing, Operations, Identity, and Finance.<br>You’ll enjoy a high degree of ownership, a diverse set of technical and business problems, and an environment where engineers are empowered to make decisions. If you discover a tool that could make us more productive, show us what it can do and help us put it to work.</div> <div class="p-rich_text_section">&nbsp;</div> <h3>Your main responsibilities will be:</h3> <ul> <li>Own and continuously improve our Databricks data platform and supporting Azure infrastructure.</li> <li>Build, maintain, and scale reliable production data pipelines and ingestion processes.</li> <li>Act as first responder for data platform incidents, including cross-platform issues that surface as data quality problems.</li> <li>Improve platform performance, security, secrets management, observability, and cost efficiency.</li> <li>Strengthen data governance through clear ownership, access and PII management, and the identification of orphaned jobs.</li> <li>Own the integration layer and establish strong engineering standards for testing, versioning, code reviews, CI/CD, and GitHub-based workflows.</li> <li>Data agent usage is growing rapidly - part of the role is designing the access, cost, and observability boundaries so agents scale safely without becoming the dominant cost line."</li> </ul> <div>Your early impact will include taking ownership of critical pipelines, eliminating recurring failures, identifying and preparing orphaned jobs for handover, and parallelizing our largest ingestion pipelines.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <h3>What would ensure success in this role?</h3> <ul> <li>Strong hands-on experience with Databricks, Spark, or other distributed data-processing technologies.</li> <li>Experience building, operating, and improving production-grade data pipelines.</li> <li>A solid software engineering foundation, including Git, CI/CD, automated testing, versioning, and code reviews.</li> <li>Experience working in regulated environments such as finance, banking, reporting, or AML/KYC.</li> <li>A strong ownership and reliability mindset—you follow problems through to resolution and make sure they stay fixed.</li> <li>Excellent communication skills, a structured approach, and the confidence to establish standards in a fast-moving environment.</li> </ul> <h3>Bonus points for having</h3> <ul> <li>Familiarity with dbt or other modern data-stack technologies.</li> <li>Experience with cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices.</li> <li>Experience designing scalable integration layers involving APIs and third-party platforms.</li> <li>Knowledge of data privacy, access control, and PII governance.</li> </ul> <h3 class="p-rich_text_section">What can you expect at Bondora?</h3> <div class="p-rich_text_section">How often do you get the chance to help build a bank?<br>The European consumer credit market represents an €855 billion opportunity.
