Company hidden until unlock
You've been carrying an urgency to make an impact. Join to give it velocity. 01 THE ROLE Chemistry is the invisible layer of all critical industries, and the old supply chain is being weaponized. We don't refine petroleum. We create the molecules that matter most — from the atom up. As a Software Engineer at Ohr, you'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with our laboratory scientists and our AI Infrastructure Engineer to turn breakthrough chemistry into working software: AI tools our teams use daily, applications that accelerate molecule discovery, and digital twins of the processes we're scaling from lab bench to production. THE KIND OF PEOPLE THIS WORK DEMANDS Our mission demands more than great science. It requires a particular kind of team — visionary builders, hustlers, scientists, operators. Together, we carry both the technical depth to make the chemistry work and the commercial instinct to make the business thrive. People are our engine. Collaboration is our multiplier. 02 WHAT YOU'LL DESIGN AND BUILD - Implement and extend AI tooling across the company — taking LLM-powered workflows from prototype to reliable, production-grade internal tools with human-in-the-loop review, logging, and auditability built in - Partner directly with laboratory scientists to build applications for molecule discovery — tools for candidate screening, enzyme and pathway data exploration, and experiment planning that put computational leverage in scientists’ hands - Develop process digital twins — software models of our chemical and biological production processes that support simulation, optimization, and scale-up decisions as we move from lab to distributed manufacturing - Build full-stack internal applications end-to-end: backend services, APIs, data access layers, and usable interfaces for technical and non-technical teams - Integrate with our existing systems and data platforms, following the architecture and standards set by our lead engineer - Write code that respects the realities of a regulated industry: tested, documented, secure, and auditable 03 WHAT YOU BRING WITH YOU You're an all-purpose builder — the engineer who is just as comfortable pairing with a scientist to understand an assay as you are shipping a backend service. You want your code to touch the physical world. You likely have: - 4–8 years of professional software engineering experience - A four-year undergraduate degree in computer science or engineering; a science or engineering degree in another field may substitute when paired with 6–10 years of relevant experience - Strong general-purpose programming skills (e.g., Python and/or TypeScript) and experience shipping production software end-to-end - Experience supporting the full lifecycle of production software - developing, deploying, and maintaining performant, secure, and highly available applications. - Building applications that consume LLMs and modern AI APIs — retrieval, structured extraction, agentic workflows, or AI-assisted tooling - Experience collaborating with software developers (code reviews, on-call incidents, shared codebase, and common infrastructure) - Comfort working with scientific or numerical data and translating domain problems into software - The ability to work directly with non-engineers — asking good questions, prototyping quickly, and iterating based on real usage STRONG PLUS - Experience with simulation, modeling, or digital twin development (process modeling, physics-based or data-driven) - Exposure to chemistry, biology, or laboratory environments (LIMS, instrument data, scientific computing) - Experience in regulated industries or with sensitive data handling - Experience selecting tools, languages, libraries, and infrastructure necessary to deliver a working system. WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE AFTER 3 MONTHS - You’ve shipped your first tool that scientists use weekly, and you understand our chemistry well enough to propose the next one AFTER 6–12 MONTHS - Molecule discovery workflows are measurably faster because of applications you built - A first-generation process digital twin is in use for scale-up decisions 04 EXPORT CONTROL COMPLIANCE This role involves access to data and systems subject to U.S. export control regulations, including ITAR. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, or a protected individual as defined under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3). 05 COMPENSATION & BENEFITS This is a fully remote role, open to candidates located anywhere in the United States, with a preference for candidates in the Seattle, San Diego, and Arlington/Washington, DC areas. The annual base salary range for this position is $140,000 – $200,000, commensurate with experience, plus equity. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, and qualifications. Ohr offers a competitive benefits package, including: MEDICAL COVERAGE A wide range of plans, with many options fully covered for employees and dependents at no cost to the employee. 401(K) WITH MATCH Employer match up to 4% of eligible compensation. PAID TIME OFF Vacation, paid company holidays, and an end-of-year shutdown. EQUITY You're joining at an early and consequential moment in Ohr's growth — equity commensurate with experience, with meaningful upside as we scale. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. Ohr is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law. ABOUT OHR We are the integrators of industrial alchemy. Ohr exists because the molecules that matter most deserve a better origin story.
