You will help shape the shared engineering foundation that powers every one of project44's visibility products — Ground (FTL, LTL, Parcel, Rail), Ocean, Air, and Orders — turning billions of carrier signals into real-time tracking, milestones, and notifications for the world's largest shippers and logistics providers.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Key accountabilities: What you'll work on</strong></p> <ul> <li>Build and evolve the core platforms behind every visibility product — event ingestion, milestone computation, webhook and notification delivery, scheduled work, and shared &nbsp;APIs used across all modal teams.</li> <li>Design event-driven systems that process high-throughput carrier data reliably and with low latency.</li> <li>Own reliability, performance, and scalability of the platforms your team operates.</li> <li>Building systems in a multi-cloud environment. We use AWS and GCP but value experience in other cloud environments such as Azure.</li> <li>Partner with modal engineering teams across Ground (FTL, LTL, Parcel, Rail), Ocean, Air, and Orders to expose platform capabilities they can build on.</li> <li>Share ownership of all facets of software delivery, including development, operations,and test.</li> <li>You will assume on-call responsibilities for systems (together with the team) that are built and owned by your team.</li> <li>You will invest in tools, monitoring, and automation to improve on-call experience for everyone on your team.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p> <ul> <li>5+ years professional experience building large scale and real time or near real time cloud systems.</li> <li>Strong programming and debugging skills, with proficiency in Java Backend.</li> <li>Demonstrated experience with systems that operate at high scale — high event throughput, tight latency SLAs, and high availability as first-class design constraints, not stretch goals.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Experience in:&nbsp;</strong></p> <ul> <li>Designing and operating event-driven and stream-processing systems on Kafka or Kinesis.</li> <li>Creating and working with scalable Java-based micro-services.</li> <li>Working with databases (preferably Postgres or other SQL based DB).</li> <li>Building systems in a multi-cloud environment. We use AWS &amp; GCP but value&nbsp;experience in other cloud environments such as Azure.</li> <li>Working in an agile software development environment.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Desirable and helpful (but not necessary) are experience in:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Building shared platforms consumed by other engineering teams — API design, versioning, and backward-compatibility considerations.</li> <li>Experience with investigating large and complex codebases.</li> <li>Hands-on experience with Java.</li> <li>Creating API's/web services: REST, OpenAPI/Swagger is a plus.</li> <li>Container-orchestration: Docker &amp; Kubernetes.</li> <li>Enjoy database related work: DynamoDB, MongoDB, Postgres.</li> <li>Observability tooling (metrics, tracing, logs) and running production systems at scale.</li> <li>Analytical approach to problem solving.</li> <li>Personal drive and maintaining a high pace — while taking responsibility for things working.</li> <li>W
