Our values guide how we show up for each other and our community every day.</p> <p>We are looking for a Senior Product Quality Engineer, EE to join our Product Quality team in San Francisco, California. In this role you will lead Early Field Failure Analysis (EFFA), field quality, and product safety for the Oura Ring, covering both products currently in mass production and earlier generations still in members’ hands. You will determine why electrical failures occur in the field, confirm the mechanism behind them, and drive the design, process, supplier, and test changes required to prevent them from recurring.</p> <p>Job responsibilities include leading electrical failure analysis on returned units, building serial-level evidence packages from manufacturing, test, and telemetry data, and establishing commonality across build, supplier, revision, and geography. You will define containment and escalation for field safety issues, direct corrective action with our contract manufacturers (CMs) and suppliers, and verify effectiveness against field and factory data before an action is considered closed.</p> <p>A core objective of this role is closing the quality loop. You will convert confirmed field and factory findings into design, DFMEA, test coverage, and component selection inputs for NPI programs, so that mechanisms identified on shipping products are designed out of the next generation. This requires close partnership with Electrical Engineering, Firmware, Reliability, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, Data, and Member Experience.</p> <p>This role spans the bench, the data, and the factory floor. Strong electrical engineering fundamentals, hands-on failure analysis capability, and practical data analysis skill are all essential for success in this role.</p> <p>This is a US Hybrid role based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with an in-office requirement of three days per week.</p> <h1><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><strong>What you will do:</strong></span></h1> <ul> <li>Own electrical Early Field Failure Analysis (EFFA) for Oura Ring products, from returned unit intake and evidence review through technical disposition, confirmed mechanism, and closure</li> <li>Lead field quality and safety investigations for battery, charging, and power-related issues, including risk assessment, containment and escalation decisions, and the supporting technical rationale for Reliability, Regulatory, and Member Experience</li> <li>Direct non-destructive-first analysis workflows covering received-condition documentation, electrical characterization, ring diagnostics, optical inspection, and imaging prior to any destructive analysis</li> <li>Isolate failure mechanisms across power, battery, charging, sensor, clock, connectivity, interconnect, and leakage-related faults to the component, material, or process level using DMM, oscilloscope, current measurement, thermal imaging, micro-probing, and X-ray/CT</li> <li>Build serial-level evidence packages combining product configuration, hardware and firmware revision, manufacturing genealogy, factory test history, telemetry, and diagnostic records against the member-reported symptom</li> <li>Analyze field, factory, and FA data to establish commonality across manufacturing site, build lot, supplier, component, ring size, hardware and firmware revision, product age, geography, and diagnostic signature</li> <li>Distinguish reported symptom from failed function and confirmed mechanism, documenting supporting and contradicting evidence, remaining open questions, and confidence in the disposition</li> <li>Drive corrective action with CMs and suppliers, including factory containment, process control updates, inspection and test coverage, design and firmware changes, and additional reliability validation</li> <li>Verify corrective action effectiveness against before-and-after field, factory, reliability, or component data prior to closure</li> <li>Feed confirmed field and factory findings into NPI through design and DFMEA reviews, component and supplier selection, test coverage definition, traceability requirements, and reliability planning</li> <li>Partner with Data and Software teams on data ingestion, SQL and Python analysis, dashboards, and triage logic to convert confirmed mechanisms into leading indicators and proactive capture criteria</li> <li>Establish FA methods, standard operating procedures, equipment requirements, and reporting templates, and build repeatable capability across Oura’s regional labs and CM partners</li> <li>Present findings to engineering and quality leadership, clearly separating observation, hypothesis, confirmed mechanism, corrective action, and open risk</li> </ul> <p>You are a technical leader who insists on evidence and is comfortable with ambiguity.
