This individual will play a critical role in the component design, system design, and mechanical analysis of VEIR’s superconducting systems, and help develop our first major commercial products. This engineer will be responsible for a major segment of the mechanical design, driving it from concept phase through detailed design and into production.</p> </div> </div> <p><strong>What You'll Do</strong></p> <ul> <li>Serve as a subject matter expert in mechanical, thermal, and structural design for custom components and multi-process assemblies used in superconducting systems.</li> <li>Own and lead the design, development, and testing of key assemblies for low-voltage and medium-voltage superconducting systems, from concept through to fabrication.</li> <li>Conduct detailed mechanical and structural analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess design and reliability, accounting for thermal, mechanical, and electrical interactions.</li> <li>Define mechanical requirements and oversee qualification testing for system components, managing both in-house and external resources.</li> <li>Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support system deployment, ensuring the integration of cryogenic thermal management systems.</li> <li>Review design calculations, drawings, and submittals from junior engineers, mentoring and guiding them in their development.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Skills You Have</strong></p> <ul> <li>7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong foundation in mechanical, structural, & thermal analysis.</li> <li>End-to-end experience across the product development life cycle: from concept development, thru preliminary & detailed design, and into production.</li> <li>Skilled in mechanical design via CAD, design for assembly of complex multi-body assemblies, first-order structural & thermal calculations, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software for detailed analysis.</li> <li>Experience creating engineering drawings for external fabrication.</li> <li>Familiar with industry standards like ASME 31.3 and/or BPVC, with experience designing pressure vessels or similar components.</li> <li>Skilled in coding with MATLAB, Python, or similar languages is a plus.</li> <li>A continuous improvement mindset to innovate and optimize system designs.</li> <li>Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration, vendor management, and team mentoring.</li> <li>Willingness to travel for short durations during product deployment phases.</li> </ul> <p><strong>To be successful in this role</strong></p> <ul> <li>You bring a solid background in mechanical engineering, ideally with extensive experience in structural mechanics, thermal analysis, and FEA.</li> <li>Known for your precision and your ability to ideate, iterate, and execute complex designs.</li> <li>You are an outstanding communicator (written and verbal) across all levels of the organization and can work effectively in a fast-paced collaborative environment.</li> <li>You are a highly motivated, self-starter with a positive approach to problem solving</li> <li>You are driven by results - you gauge your success in measurable positive impact (not in how much you check off the to do list) and know how to ruthlessly prioritize </li> <li>You thrive on effectively managing multiple projects with competing priorities that require making decisions under pressure and working under tight deadlines</li> <li>You are highly curious and solutions-oriented, and excel at deconstructing complex problems into manageable components to develop effective solutions</li> <li>You are committed to buying into VEIR’s mission and goals, and adopting our core values.</li> </ul> <p>VEIR is committed to equal pay for equal work in its compensation practices.
