Our Why Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people's lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow. Datapay is Datacom's SaaS payroll platform, trusted by some of the largest employers in New Zealand and Australia to pay their people accurately, on time, every time. We're growing, evolving our platform, and building out the integration ecosystem that connects payroll with the broader people tech landscape. This role is central to that journey. About the Role A cross-functional role serving across Datapay, spanning pre-sales, implementation, and product. You'll be our integration expert ensuring seamless connectivity between Datapay's SaaS payroll platform and the broader people tech ecosystem. You'll sit within Ecosystems Product Management alongside the Tech PM, Engineering Manager, and Tech Lead. Together, this forms a self-sufficient unit responsible for Datapay's integration platform, partner ecosystem, and enterprise delivery. This is a customer-facing, product-oriented role, not a deep technical architect position. We need someone who has been in this domain, done this work, and knows what good looks like. Someone hands-on with a bias for action who enjoys making solutions work in the real world, with real customers, at scale. Someone who thrives on solving problems, delivering outcomes, and maintaining momentum. You don't need to know every application in the people tech landscape, but you need the expertise and curiosity to quickly learn new systems, reference proven patterns, and design practical solutions. Our integration landscape is evolving. We need someone comfortable with established patterns (including file-based, batch, and legacy integrations that remain a significant reality) as well as modern approaches including API-first architectures, event-driven systems, and the emerging role of AI in integration. What You'll Do Pre-Sales: Support enterprise pitches with realistic integration solutions. Ensure commitments are grounded in platform capabilities. Lead proof-of-concept demonstrations using our actual platform. Implementation: Design and deliver enterprise integrations connecting payroll with HRIS/HCM, WFM, Finance ERP, onboarding, and employee engagement systems. Proactively remove technical blockers. Collaborate with customer architects, project teams, and third-party vendors. Manage risks and escalations. Drive delivery to completion: quickly, cleanly, with meaningful outcomes. Product: Contribute to integration platform, API framework, and partner connectivity design direction. Bring customer perspective to product decisions. Shape integration standards and reusable patterns that scale. Work collaboratively with engineering on solution design, bringing a strong understanding of platform architecture and DevSecOps practices. Across Everything: Master Datapay's payroll application, platforms, APIs, security, and environment. Document well. Evangelize and present solutions that solve real customer problems. Mentor team members. Continuously improve. Technical Depth RESTful/SOAP API design, versioning, governance, and lifecycle management File-based integrations (SFTP, flat files, CSV, XML) and the pragmatism to use them where appropriate Event-driven architecture: pub/sub, message queues, webhooks Sync, async, batch, real-time, and hybrid integration patterns Data transformation, canonical models, mapping, and orchestration Error handling, retry logic, idempotency, circuit breakers API gateway/management: throttling, rate limiting, authentication, monitoring OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, mutual TLS, PII handling Data protection: encryption at rest and in transit, data residency, data sovereignty, and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001) Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure (public, private, hybrid) and network security as it relates to integration endpoints and data flows CI/CD for integration artefacts, automated testing, deployment pipelines Integration monitoring, observability, and SLA management API-first and composable architecture principles Familiarity with AI-driven integration concepts including AI agents, agentic workflows, and MCP What You Bring Essential 8+ years in systems integration, solution architecture, or technical implementation 5+ years implementing integrations in payroll, HRIS/HCM, workforce management, or related people tech domains Previous direct experience in the payroll and/or people tech integration domain. Comfortable with platform architecture and DevSecOps concepts without needing to be the deep technical specialist Strong documentation, presentation, and solution evangelism skills Strong pre-sales and commercial skills: able to qualify opportunities, shape solution scope, articulate value, and support enterprise sales conversations with credible integration guidance Understanding of information security, data protection, privacy legislation (NZ/AU Privacy Acts), cloud infrastructure, and compliance requirements in payroll/HR contexts Bachelor's degree in Business, IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related Desirable Experience with platforms such as Workday, Oracle HCM, SAP SuccessFactors, ServiceNow Hands-on experience with HRIS/HCM, WFM, Time & Attendance, onboarding, or employee engagement platforms Experience with iPaaS/API management (Boomi, MuleSoft, Workato, Kong, Apigee) Practical exposure to AI/ML in integration or automation contexts Your Approach: Grounded, practical, customer-centric.
