About the Role As Allswell’s Engineering Lead, you’ll report directly to our CTO and lead the development of the AI-powered product suite that makes our clinicians more effective and helps us deliver better, more personalized care. You’ll also work across patient and provider growth, building the experiences that bring patients into care and help providers get up and running. This is a senior, high-ownership role. You'll join as the most senior engineer on a growing team. Today, you'll build alongside our offshore engineers. Over time, you'll grow the team, mentor engineers in-house, and set the bar for how we ship code. Above all, we're looking for a strong builder. The best fit is a full-stack generalist who has shipped 0-to-1 products with AI at the core. What we're looking for - 6+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping full-stack products end-to-end - Proven experience shipping real AI products that have driven meaningful business results. You have judgment about when LLMs add value and when they don't. - Full-stack technical depth, with hands-on experience building backend APIs and frontend interfaces using Node.js/NestJS and React/TypeScript, as well as AWS infrastructure. - Experience with core AI product building blocks, including LLM APIs, RAG, agentic systems, and evaluation frameworks. - Comfort working cross-functionally across product, engineering, and clinical teams. - Strong product instincts: you care about the user and the product experience, not just how the code works - Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field What we'd love to see - Previous experience as a founding or early engineer at a fast-growing startup - Previous experience in healthcare or another regulated environment - A bias toward shipping: you can move quickly without sacrificing quality Why you'll like working at Allswell - The mission: We are building the definitive mental health company for the LGBTQ+ community, and the work changes clients' lives. - The scope: You'll own the technical foundation for a growing suite of AI products, with significant influence over what we build and how we build it. - The ownership: You'll work directly with our CTO as the most senior engineer on the team and have a major voice in architecture, product, and technical direction. - The team: A queer-led company that takes the work seriously, moves quickly, and holds a high bar. - The benefits: Health, dental, and vision, plus unlimited PTO. - Allswell is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
