Teamwork makes the stream work.

Roku is changing how the world watches TV

Roku is the #1 TV streaming platform in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and we've set our sights on powering every television in the world. Roku pioneered streaming to the TV. Our mission is to be the TV streaming platform that connects the entire TV ecosystem. We connect consumers to the content they love, enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and provide advertisers unique capabilities to engage consumers.

From your first day at Roku, you'll make a valuable - and valued - contribution. We're a fast-growing public company where no one is a bystander. We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.

What does the team work on?

We are the New Product Introduction team responsible for introducing new Roku TVs to the market. We work on everything required to bring a new product to market from concept phase to mass production. We work with vendors and channel partners along with various teams within Roku to make sure we can bring high quality products to our customers.

In Hsinchu, this team owns the test automation behind that work — the automated Sanity, Smoke, DVT and PVT suites that gate every TV release, run against real hardware in our lab, and the triage of the failures that come back from partners and internal teams.

What is the role?

We are looking for an Automation QA Engineer to own automated test development and reliability for Roku TV platforms end to end — from reading the requirement, to designing and writing the test, to running it on a device, to debugging why it failed at 3am in a partner factory.

This is a hands-on engineering role, not a test-execution role. You will write production Python against our automation framework, work with real hardware in the loop, and take responsibility for the quality signal your suites produce.

AI-assisted development is a core part of the role. You will use coding agents to generate tests, analyze failures, and interact with devices, while remaining accountable for the correctness, reliability, and maintainability of every test delivered.

How will I use AI at Roku?

At Roku, we don’t just use AI, we work with it. AI agents and smart tools help power drafts, analysis, and repetitive workflows, while our people bring direction, judgment, and accountability. We’re looking for curious, adaptable builders who can show how they’ve used AI or automation to move faster, raise the bar, and scale their impact.

We value your AI skills if have built fluency across the agentic engineering toolchain — coding harnesses like Claude Code or Cursor, MCP servers, custom skills, or agent frameworks. And you can describe projects where you shipped real work with these tools. You know how to drive an agent, verify its output, and ramp on an unfamiliar codebase with an agent helping you.

What are the responsibilities of the role?

Design, develop and maintain automated test cases and suites for Roku TV firmware and features, using Python and our internal automation framework

Own the reliability of the automation you write — investigate flaky and broken tests, and isolate whether a failure is script, infrastructure, firmware or product

Triage automation failures reported by partners and internal NPI teams; reproduce, root-cause, and either fix the script or route the defect with clear evidence

Convert manual test cases from the NPI backlog into reliable automated coverage, including hardware-dependent scenarios (IR/RF remote, relays, cameras, audio capture)

Integrate and maintain tests in CI/CD, keeping suites green, fast and trustworthy across multiple TV platforms

Review peers' automation code and hold the bar on maintainability, structure and verification

Work directly with firmware, platform and partner engineering teams; report results clearly to stakeholders across Taiwan, China and the US

Use AI coding agents to develop, debug, and triage automation against real devices, while validating every result on hardware before release.

Improve the team’s AI-assisted workflows by identifying and sharing approaches that measurably reduce test-development, triage, or debugging time.

What capabilities and attributes does Roku value most for this position?

Uses AI coding tools (Claude Code, Copilot, Codex) to create, update, and debug automated tests, and to quickly learn an unfamiliar test framework while following the existing code structure and team standards.

Knows when to use code completion, chat, or an AI agent, and validates all AI-generated tests on real hardware before release.

Can spot common AI-generated test problems (wrong APIs, weak checks, false passes, mocked paths, fixed waits) and checks whether a failure comes from the test script or the product before submitting results.

Follows team AI workflows and guardrails (agent skills, context templates, CI checks), and contributes improvements when possible.

Can show examples of automation work done with AI and explain how the results were verified.

Has 3+ years of hands-on Python test automation experience using Pytest, unittest, BDD or a similar framework, with strong debugging and flaky-test inve
