at ICEYE · 501-1000 employees
ICEYE is a Finnish spacetech company that builds and operates the world's largest SAR (synthetic aperture radar) satellite constellation for persistent Earth observation and intelligence.
Role highlights: - AIT Mechanical Test Engineer - Location: Espoo, Finland - Department: Global Manufacturing Organisation - Reports to: AIT Engineering Team Manager - Employment type: Permanent - Workplace model: On-site - Employment is subject to applicable security screening (incl. SUPO, where required) Why this role matters: As an AIT Mechanical Test Engineer, you own mechanical and environmental test readiness for ICEYE's satellite platform: vibration, shock, mass properties, and fastened or mechanism interfaces. You will personally set up, run, and troubleshoot vibration test campaigns end-to-end, working in close partnership with structural and mechanical designers to ensure every subsystem can be built and verified reliably as ICEYE scales GEN4 satellite production toward a weekly build cadence. Who We Are ICEYE is the world leader in sovereign intelligence from space. We deliver persistent monitoring capabilities to detect and respond to changes in any location on Earth. ICEYE owns the world's largest and most advanced SAR (synthetic aperture radar) satellite constellation. To our customers we provide intelligence with unmatched quality, latency and revisit times, in any weather, day or night. To governments who choose to operate their own constellation we provide this proven capability as a sovereign system. ICEYE-built constellations serve customers in defence and intelligence, environmental monitoring, insurance and emergency management. We enable fast decisions that contribute to a safer future. Founded and headquartered in Finland, ICEYE operates globally with over 1000 employees across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. Your day-to-day responsibilities - Own mechanical and environmental test readiness for vibration testing (random vibration, sine burst/sweep, sine-on-random/random-on-random, resonance search and dwell), shock, mass properties/CG verification, and fastener torque and thread-locking integrity testing - Personally set up, operate, and troubleshoot the vibration test system (electrodynamic shaker, slip table, head expander) and its control software, including electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic sub-systems - Design or evaluate test fixtures, considering structural dynamics principles and force/overturning moment budgets, and coordinate fixture fabrication - Author test procedures and reports that are technically correct, version-controlled, and executable on the floor without interpretation - Act as the mechanical test point of contact for engineering and production when structural behaviour during test is unclear, unexpected, or blocking - Work in a "2-in-a-box" partnership with structures and mechanical designers to derive and verify test levels and assess testability of design changes - Own Tier-2 technical support for mechanical test non-conformances and anomalies -- triage, root cause, corrective action, and closure - Analyse test data and communicate results and recommendations clearly to engineering teams, while mentoring AIT technicians on mechanical test execution What we’re looking for Must haves: - Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related discipline - 3-5 years of hands-on experience in vibration, shock, or environmental test engineering in a hardware-intensive environment (aerospace, defence, automotive, or similar) - Direct, hands-on experience operating electrodynamic shaker systems and vibration test control software across sine, random, shock, and sine burst/sweep testing - Solid understanding of structural dynamics and environmental test methods, with working knowledge of relevant standards (RPUG, MIL-STD-1540/810, NASA GEVS, or ECSS) - Experience designing or evaluating test fixtures and deriving test levels from mass properties and force/OTM budgets - Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, ICDs, and test specifications, translating them into executable test procedures - Excellent English communication skills, written and verbal, across engineering and production audiences Nice to haves: - Hands-on experience with Vibration Research software (VibrationVIEW / ObserVIEW) - Experience in spacecraft, aerospace, defence, or other high-reliability mechanical test environments - Familiarity with satellite structural qualification or acceptance test campaigns - Exposure to HALT/HASS or other accelerated environmental test methods - Experience supporting new test equipment acquisition, FAT/SAT, and commissioning - Proficiency with Jira or equivalent engineering tracking and NC management systems Application Process - Talent Attraction interview - Hiring manager interview - Technical interview, including a technical challenge - Final interview - Offer Working at ICEYE At ICEYE, you’ll join a diverse and highly engaged team united by the ambition to make the impossible possible.
